چکیده

Fig. 1 presents the pressure distribution at t = 245 ns. It is seen that the shock (propagating from the right to the left) has arrived close to the Cu–Al boundary, but is still in the Cu region. This corresponds to the case when the maximum intensity of 5 × 10 uranium ions / bunch with a particle energy of 400 MeV/u is used. The FWHM of the Gaussian intensity distribution in the focal spot is 2 mm. The temperature in the shock heated Cu is about 18000 K

Studies of Richtmyer–Meshkov Instability Growth in Solids Using Intense Heavy Ion Beams at FAIR / HEDgeHOB

In this contribution we present numerical simulations of the Richtmyer–Meshkov (RM) instability growth in solids, using a plane shock driven by an intense ion beam. The plane shock is generated using the Mach reflection technique [1]. Fig. 1 shows the position of the shock front at t = 500 ns that is propagating from the right to the left. It is seen that the shock is close to the Cu–Al boundar...

Quantitative Theory of Richtmyer-meshkov Instability in Three Dimensions

A material interface between two fluids of different density accelerated by a shock wave is unstable. This instability is known as Richtmyer-Meshkov (RM) instability. Previous theoretical and numerical studies primarily focused on fluids in two dimensions. In this paper, we present the studies of RichtmyerMeshkov instability in three dimensions in rectangular coordinates. There are three main r...

An Analytical Nonlinear Theory of Richtmyer- Meshkov Instability

Richtmyer-Meshkov instability is a fingering instability which occurs at a material interface accelerated by a shock wave. We present an analytic, explicit prediction for the growth rate of the unstable interface. The theoretical prediction agrees, for the first time, with the experimental data on air-SF6, and is in remarkable agreement with the results of recent full non-linear numerical simul...

A study of planar Richtmyer-Meshkov instability in fluids with Mie-Grüneisen equations of state

We present a numerical comparison study of planar Richtmyer-Meshkov instability with the intention of exposing the role of the equation of state. Results for Richtmyer-Meshkov instability in fluids with Mie-Grüneisen equations of state derived from a linear shock-particle speed Hugoniot relationship (Jeanloz, J. Geophys. Res. 94, 5873, 1989; McQueen et al., High Velocity Impact Phenomena (1970)...

The Richtmyer-meshkov Instability

■ Abstract The Richtmyer-Meshkov instability arises when a shock wave interacts with an interface separating two different fluids. It combines compressible phenomena, such as shock interaction and refraction, with hydrodynamic instability, including nonlinear growth and subsequent transition to turbulence, across a wide range of Mach numbers. This review focuses on the basic physical processes ...
